The Marine Ball
Josh and I attended the Marine Corps Birthday Ball a few years ago (you can read about it here) in Kenya and were excited to go to another here in Georgia. The Marine Corps always throw a huge birthday celebration and I love that we've had the opportunity to go to two of them. I love the traditions of the military and really enjoy seeing the Marine Corps traditions in action.
This ball seemed grander than that of Kenya. Everyone was dressed to the nines. We enjoyed a quick cocktail hour followed by the official ceremony. The unit flew in an Iwo Jima vet for the event as it was also the anniversary of the battle. The ambassador spoke as well as the unit commander.
We enjoyed a great sit down dinner followed by dancing. Despite my massive pregnant self we even hit the dance floor for a bit.

One Month In
We've hit the one month mark here in Georgia and life is going great. Our things have arrived and we are pretty much put away and organized. We are still waiting on a few storage pieces for the bathrooms for toiletries and for the embassy to come hang things on the wall, but for the most part it feels like home.
I think it's safe to say we've found a new church home which we love. The community is small but the fellowship is great. We are trying to get out there and meet new people. This has been a little difficult with the summer travel months but as school starts here we expect people to settle back in.
Josh is getting settled in at work and we have hired a housekeeper for the day to day at the house. We are patiently waiting on our car but thankfully have a loaner for the meantime. We've used said car to explore the city and even got out into the surrounding areas last weekend.
Overall Georgia has exceeded our expectations thus far. I know that part of it may be the initial draw of a new place but I see us really settling in here and loving it. Everyone has been so welcoming and we still have a lot of the country to explore!
In the weeks to come we are looking forward to a few trips and events. This weekend we are headed to a vineyard to participate in the annual harvest and grape stomping. I am excited to see if Mara gets into this activity! We are also hoping to visit the old capital sometimes this month. We drove by it last month and it looks like a great place to spend a Saturday. At the end of this month we will celebrate our little girl's birthday. I can't believe she is turning 2! We are throwing her a small cat themed party per her request!

One Week In
So we're approximately one week into our Georgian adventure and things are starting to settle down a bit. We've finished what I like to call the temporary unpack emptying our suitcases and putting away our UAB (unaccompanied baggage move). Temporary because it is likely most of it will get rearranged when the rest of our things arrive. We have also moved some of the smaller furniture but still have some bigger pieces that need to find new homes.
We've managed to hit up the grocery stores a couple of times and I am slowly getting used to cooking here. On that note we have had some issues with our cooking apparatuses in our kitchen. Our oven didn't work and yesterday our stove top glass top shattered while cooking. Just keeping it interesting around here :)
Mara is settling in great! She is fully on the time zone and is sleeping in a twin bed. We never expected to transition her so soon but it just kind of happened. I really think she wasn't comfortable in her pack n play. For the most part it has been an easy transition. She really took to the bed! She still wakes up occasionally and we have our good nights and bad.
We're slowly meeting people too. I've been able to attend a spouse coffee sponsored by the embassy and went swimming with a few new friends today. There is a lot of young kids Mara's age which is great. We are already looking forward to many more play dates in our future!
On the horizon we're waiting on the rest of our things and getting really settled. We're also looking into hiring some household help and possibly a driver. In general we're just excited to start exploring our new home. There is so much going on in our neighborhood, great restaurants and little shops to explore. I'm ready to start really getting the feel of the land and learning our way around here!

We Made It!
Well we've made it. Josh, Mara, myself and even Buddy survived the two full days of travel. Looking back on it, the flights actually weren't that bad. Do I want to do that trip anytime again soon? Not so much...
Thankfully upon our arrival we were taken straight to our home. Apparently this is really unusual for this post. Usually embassy personnel spend up to three months in temporary housing while their house is readied. During this time they basically only have what they brought in their bags. We were so blessed to not have to deal with that. Not only did we move in immediately but the very next day our unaccompanied baggage shipment arrived! We were super excited to receive some of the necessities from home including more cat food, Mara's toys and more clothes for all!
Our home is beautiful. We are on the top floor of an apartment complex although our place in no way feels like an apartment. We have two floors with the bedrooms upstairs and the main living areas down. Our favorite part thus far has to be the many balconies. We weren't sure if we would get any outdoor space but have three spacious terraces that outlook the most amazing view. Read city skyline to the east and picturesque mountains to the west. A little icing on the cake is the cutest playground right in the compound that we have already visited twice since being here. Mara is in heaven.
Right now our struggles are what every family moving half-way around the world experience lol. We're still adjusting to the time zone, sleeping too late and waking at weird hours of the night. We're trying to unpack. We literally have clothes everywhere. We're trying to get the necessities in the house. You know food and water. No biggie :) We're trying to bridge the language gap. We knew they didn't speak a lot of English here but yeah they really don't speak English here.
Today is Josh's first day of work so to speak. He'll spend the next week or so in processing at the embassy. Hopefully this goes smoothly as this is the first step in getting the rest of our things and really getting into the grove of life here. We are still car-less and will be till mid-September. It's weird being somewhat stranded. There are still taxis but I think both of us are a little gun shy on the language barrier thing. We have also met a few neighbors and other embassy staff. All are so kind and I think will make this transition even easier.
It all takes time. We'll get settled again and find that new normal. Tbilisi will soon become home!

And So Starts the Journey...
Well it's about that time. As we embark on this trip I ask that you keep my little family in your thoughts and prayers. Please pray for Mara that this trip goes smoothly and she quickly adjusts to the new time zone with little disruption to her sleep. Please pray for us that we handle the stress of travel well and enjoy this transition time as a family. Please pray for Buddy (our cat) that he makes the long journey safely as well. Please pray for the family we're leaving behind. Please pray for the adventure that lays ahead.
So long U.S.!
So long U.S.!

It's Moving Time!
Well it's that time of year again. PCS time!! This week we have four days of movers and three total moves. Since I have only done the move from Kenya I don't think I had a true grasp on how big of a move this is. It's not as simple as the movers come in and pack everything. No there's a ton of decisions to be made. What get's stored? What is coming with us to Georgia? What do we need right away? What will we carry in our suitcases? I'm exhausted just thinking about it!
We did a lot of work on the weekend and I underestimated how much we had actually got done. There was still so much on my to do list that Josh and I were working until midnight last night.
But here we are at the end of day 1 and it's moving forward. All of the unaccompanied baggage is already gone. The household goods are boxed and sitting at the house ready to be picked up. Tomorrow the storage movers come and most of our furniture goes away.
The house is looking super bare and it's only going to get worse. Thankfully Mara did amazing today. She watched too much tv but we made it through give or take a SUPER late nap (ready almost four hours late).
Tonight we have a short break from the madness to spend some time with the unit to say good bye to the soldiers and welcome the new ones. The to do list will still be there but I hope we can just relax and enjoy this night out!!
Ok I think I'm done rambling at this point.... :)

My Thoughts on Moving
Well we're in full on moving mode here. It's that time of year again and we are off to our next adventure! I know so many people wonder how military families do it. How they pick up and move their lives every couple of years. Heck I wonder the same thing before it became my life.
Of course it's hard. You make friends, really good friends. Military friends who get it. Whose roots are also shallow but know how precious time is. You dive in hard and don't look back. You know that PCS time will be here before you know it.
You start to love the area. You explore the beach and the mountains. There's never enough time to see it all. There is always going to be the one vacation you didn't get to. That place you wanted to see. Next time you'll tell yourself.
But then it's moving time. A new adventure awaits and you're excited. New things to see and do. New people to meet. In fact sometimes you secretly like the moving process. You complain yes but there's a part of you that appreciates the fresh start. It's a time to purge, rearrange and start again.
North Carolina has been great but we're starting to feel that itch again. It's time to move on. Sure we maybe back but for now it's time to leave. I'm sure someday down the road I may feel different about moving but for now I enjoy it.

On to a New Adventure
This military life we live tends to make us a bit transient. We usually settle into a place for a few years before it's on to the next duty station, the next adventure.
North Carolina has been great to us. We absolutely love it here. Our home, our church, our friends (who have quickly become family). It's where Mara was born. The home we first brought her to. Where we pushed through a deployment and really found ourselves as a family of three. The two years was here and gone in the blink of an eye.
But in this life there is always a new adventure and I am excited to announce that we are headed to the Republic of Georgia!!
Where's that you ask? Don't worry I had to look it up on a map too. It's a small Eastern European country just east of Turkey and South of Russia. I mean does the military actually have people there? :)
We are so thankful that Josh's job gives him unique opportunities such as this and are super excited to be headed back overseas. We know overseas assignments are rare and are grateful for another one so soon after being back from Kenya.
I love to travel and we are ready for all that Georgia has in-store for us! I also think it's going to be great to immerse Mara in another culture and language (eek they speak another language! I'm in for it!)
So thank you North Carolina for a great two years. It's bitter sweet leaving you but I am reminded that this Army we love is small and the friendships we've made will likely be rekindled down the road.
And here's to the the next adventure. Georgia here we come!!

Dear Baby Girl
Dear Baby Girl,
Baby girl your Daddy came home the other day. Despite trying to prepare you I think you were completely surprised. Why is this guy not in the computer like he always is?
We met Daddy at the hospital and you were so shy. You didn't cry or get upset. You were just so unsure. You clung to Mama's leg and wanted to be held.
This wore off so fast little girl. I think by the time we were in the car you had realized Daddy was home. You held his hand the entire ride. And when we got home, Baby Girl, you were all his.
You brought him books to read and showed him all your favorite toys. You chased him around the house on your Radio Flyer and sat on his lap during dinner.
Over the next few days your Daddy became your whole world. You were his shadow, trailing him around the house no matter where he went! Mama was no longer wanted (and this was totally fine).
All this, your reaction to having your Daddy back, just warmed my heart. I knew you missed him. I knew you knew who he was. I knew you'd do ok. I just didn't expect you to pick up so quickly where you left off.
It's like he was never gone in your eyes.
Baby girl I am so happy you have your Daddy back. I know how much you missed him (and he you)! It makes Mama's heart so happy to see you two together again!
Love you to the moon and back,
Mama & Daddy

He's Home
So I've been a little absent from this space of mine for the last few weeks but it's all been for a good reason...HE'S HOME!
It's a long story of how we came to be in this early homecoming but after a minor health scare Josh was redeployed stateside. (I'm not going to go into any details about this but know he's doing well)
Mara and I got the notice Friday, February 6th that Josh would be arriving late that day. I felt like a ball of nerves waiting for the clock to tick down. We made a few signs for the house and chalked the driveway to kill the time. Even Mara seemed to know something was in the air too as she refused her nap till just about the time we had to leave.
That day we were supposed to meet Josh in the ER. It wasn't your typical deployment reunion but at that point we were just too excited to be all together again that honestly I didn't care. Mara and I sat in the waiting room, along with most of the battalion command team, waiting for them to let us go back. Josh's plane was delayed and then they had to medically clear him before we could go back. I think we probably sat in the waiting room for close to an hour. Thankfully Miss Mara kept my mind off the nerves as she ran circles around the hospital chairs.
Finally the doctor came out and called us back. I scooped Mara up along with the diaper bag and my purse and followed him back to Josh's room. It was surreal when the doctor pulled back the curtain and Josh was sitting there on the hospital bed. We had had a lot of time to prepare for his return but it still just didn't feel real.
We hugged. We kissed. Mara just took it all in. She wasn't so sure initially but quickly warmed up to Daddy. After a little bit of paperwork we got out of there and headed home.
I think the rest of the night we all were just in awe. Awe of being in the same room again. Awe of each other. I tried to just soak it all in. No more deployment. No more skype. Our little family was together again!

Play Group
Mara really likes watching older kids and interacting with them. Recently we've started going to a play group on post for 1-3 year olds and Mara loves it.
Each morning starts with lots of songs. We sing "The Wheels on the Bus," "I'm a Little Teapot," and lots of other child favorites. With her love of music, she usually sits enthralled by the movements and sounds. I love sitting with Mara and going through all the hand motions and body movements. She probably thinks I'm crazy now but I'm sure in a couple of months she'll be doing them on her own.
Crafts are usually the second activity. This week we made a penguin. Mara usually isn't too excited about the assembly of the craft but sure loves coloring it when it's done. I try to grab her a few crayons so she can go to town on it.
After that it's a free for all. Army Community Services has done a great job getting a wide variety of toys that keep the kids super interested. Mara usually bounces from one to another super quickly. She really loves all the ride on toys and pushing toys. Recently she has become interested in their play kitchen and the see-saws.
Overall it's a great opportunity for Mara to get out and socialize with other kids her age. I have started to see her really get interested in the other kids and even try to play with others. When I'm not chasing after her (which isn't often) it's also a nice opportunity for me to get out and socialize with other mamas.
Bottom line we love it. It's our favorite way to spend out Mondays!

Proud to be a Military Family
As the holidays roll in and Josh is far away from us right now, I thought I would be swimming in a sea of resentment and frustration. Angry at the situation. Angry at the war. Angry at the military.
But with a week till Christmas, here I sit at peace with our current situation. Yes it's not ideal but this is where we are supposed to be right now and that knowledge makes me feel settled. What would we do without His grace?!
The other day I was thinking about where I am in life, reflecting on our little family and our situation. I just laughed to myself because if you would have asked me even five years ago where I'd be in life, who I'd be married to, I would have never dreamed this life.
The military was a scary proposition to me. For the most part of my teenage years, the United States had been involved in some conflict overseas. It didn't directly affect me or my family so I honestly didn't know that much about it. And now I am embarrassed to say, but I was happy with it that way!
Well He had a better plan for my life (and I'm so glad) because here I am. Happily married to a military man and SO PROUD to be a military family.
Sure it's hard. We move around a lot. Our roots are always shallow but man do they grow fast. And packing, yep, we have that down to a science! And (here's a secret) some of us actually enjoy it.
We go through deployments, some more than others. It's hard being away from our spouses but we do it because we know it's for the greater good. We send way too many care packages and spend a ton of time on skype but it's all worth it for that day they come home.
There's something special about military families. They get it. They know what you are going through. They've been there. They are family away from family. Friendships form quickly and are deep. We know each other will be moving on eventually but there is always the possibility of seeing each other again. This military we love, it's surprisingly small sometimes.
So this is our life. Our military life. And I wouldn't change it for the world. (Even in the midst of this deployment) It's hard to put it into words sometimes but I am so thankful that this is where I am, where we are. That we can provide this service for our country.

A Welcome Home
No Josh isn't back yet. We still have a little while yet. But this past weekend we had the privilege of welcoming home one of the soldiers from the unit along with other members of the battalion.
Mara and I got there early and started the waiting process. They never let you know exactly when they are coming home so you kind of have to come early and see. Mara thoroughly enjoyed running around the PAX shed especially running under the velvet ropes that would eventually separate the soldiers from their families.
When the announcement came that the plane was landing we were able to head outside to welcome it back onto American soil. The soldiers filed out and headed our way. It was a little surreal to watch them just walk past us not able to hug or welcome them properly.
Once inside they lined up and marched in. After some brief words from the commander they were released to their families. The tears started. Every time I watch or hear about a homecoming I cry. I can't even imagine what it will be like when it's our turn.
I'll be honest. It was hard. I was so happy to be there to welcome our soldiers home because in the end we're all a big military family. But I can't help but be a little jealous of those wives. Of those kids. I wanted my soldier to be in those lines.
Our time will come though and it will be amazing. I can't wait for that first hug...kiss. The next time I meet a plane my soldier will be on it and that thought is so comforting.

Adjusting to Deployment
A little more than a month into this deployment I feel like Mara and I are finally getting into somewhat of a routine. The days aren't dragging on as much and my mentality has shifted from a "let's get through the day" to larger scale picture.
At first it seemed like he was just in the field. Yes I knew where he actually was but it didn't feel permanent; like it would be over in a week or two. Now I feel like I am getting more focused on the bigger picture.
Thankfully we have been able to connect with Josh everyday. The ease of communication continues to astonish me and I hope I don't take it for granted because I know its a blessing. Mara has been able to "talk" with Josh and does a really good job of engaging with him via the computer. It's so great to see.
We have also been texting throughout the day and I try to send care packages and cards occasionally. I hope it lightens his day and keeps him smiling. As hard as some of my days here, I can't even imagine what Josh is going through on a day to day basis.
I don't mean to sugar coat it. There are good days and there are bad. There are times where I think yes I can do this then others where I literally say I'm done; tell the Army you need to come home (lol) I think there is things I need to work on. I need to learn to take help from others and take time for myself. But we're getting there. We will figure this deployment thing out. We will get through this and it's only going to make us stronger.
We've been singing this song in church lately. It's really hit home with me and I can't get through singing it without tearing up. It goes like this:

Jesus, Draw me ever nearer
As I labor through the storm
You have called me to this passage
And I'll follow, though I'm worn
May this journey bring a blessing
May I rise on wings of faith
And at the end of my hearts testing
With Your likeness let me wake
Jesus, guide me through the tempest
Keep my spirit stayed and sure
When the midnight meets the morning
Let me love You even more
May this journey bring a blessing
May I rise on wings of faith
And at the end of my hearts testing
With Your likeness let me wake
Let the treasures of the trial
Form within me as I go
And at the end of this long passage
Let me leave them at your throne
May this journey bring a blessing
May I rise on wings of faith
And at the end of my hearts testing
With Your likeness let me wake
As I labor through the storm
You have called me to this passage
And I'll follow, though I'm worn

The Fourth of July
Holidays are always a little bit harder when a loved one is away. We usually don't do anything special for the day but Mara and I did miss that family time with Josh this year.
On Friday Mara decided we should get up a little earlier to celebrate the nation's birthday :) (My 8:30 am wake up call has slowly gotten earlier and earlier as of late. Little girl don't you know your mama isn't a morning person!) We had a slow morning of the usual playing and morning chores. Mara got decked out in her festive attire and we got to connect with Josh in Afghanistan.
That evening we were supposed to head to a friend from church's house but a lack of morning naps and cranky baby kept us at home. When we were finally well rested we grabbed a quick dinner then headed down the block.
I don't know if I've mentioned this before but our neighborhood here in Fayetteville is amazing. They love to get together and are seriously the most giving people. We love it.
But back on topic....The neighborhood was getting together for the annual Fourth of July block party. Everyone brought a dish, gathered in someone's driveway and had a great time. We have such a great mix of military and non military and everyone is so supportive when it comes to deployment.
After mingling for awhile everyone was headed down the street for some fireworks. Mara was done for the day so we headed home instead where she went to bed and I enjoyed the fireworks from the comforts of our living room.
Overall it was a good day. We got to talk to Josh and enjoyed getting out of the house for a bit. The day also gave me a different perspective on the holiday as a whole. We remember the troops on Memorial day and veteran's day but I've never thought of them on the fourth. WHY NOT?! We are thankful that Josh and other service members are sacrificing being away from their loved ones this holiday so we can celebrate here in the states.

The Goodbye
Saying goodbye to Josh was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. On one hand we were dreading the day, wishing it to never come but then on the other it was like ok this has to happen and let's get this started so that we are only one day closer to being together again.
I have never seen a deployment ceremony before and was really pleasantly surprised with how informal it was. Words were said by the battalion commander and the commander of Ft. Bragg and then everyone was allowed to just have family time.
I really cherished this time. We were able to pull off in the corner and just soak in every last minute. Josh got to hold Mara and I got to hold Josh.
A few of our friends were there and captured these sweet moments. We will always treasure these.

Dear Baby Girl
Dear Baby Girl,
Do you know how lucky you are little girl?
Do you know how lucky you are to have a Daddy like you do? A Daddy who sacrifices so that the rest of us can live the life we sometimes take for granted. A Daddy who willingly puts on his uniform day in and day out because he loves what he does, because of an inner duty that drives him. A Daddy who had to be away from his little girl and her mommy because of a cause bigger than all of us.
Baby Girl I wanted to write you this letter because I know you will not remember. You won't remember this time when your Daddy wasn't here.
In a way we are comforted by this but at the same time I want you to know what it was like for him. The days leading up to his departure were rough. Baby girl he wanted to spend so much time with you, to make precious memories. We soaked up each and every moment we had. We laughed and we cried.
It was like you knew something big was about to happen, girl. To watch you two together those few weeks just about made my heart explode. Your Daddy became your world. You lit up when he entered the room and the smiles you two shared were breathtaking.
We marveled at the little accomplishments you did knowing that in the back of our minds he was going to miss quite a few in the months to come. He was so strong, Baby Girl. He tried not to let it show but it was those quiet moments that got to him. When you held his hand so tightly, not wanting to let go. When he comforted you in the night. Those were the hardest. But oh girl how he loves you. It was so hard because of just how much he loves you.
The day we said good-bye to daddy was rough but you were such a comfort to both daddy and mommy. You went right to your daddy and snuggled into him. Although you were asleep you seemed to soak in these precious minutes. You grasped his coat and buried your face into his neck. Daddy was doing the same, kissing your precious head and smelling your wonderful smell.
Giving you back to mama was probably one of the hardest things Daddy had to do that day, girl. Thankfully you woke up to flash him that smile of yours and give one last open mouthed kiss.
We are a military family, baby girl, and that sometimes means we will have to be apart. That your Daddy will have to leave to go protect others. This is just one of the sacrifices we choose to make as a family. I pray that when you get older and look back at this time through pictures and stories that this is what sticks out most to you: that Daddy doesn't love you less because he had to be away but that his love for you will always hold despite distance and time. It will never falter.
Love,
Mommy & Daddy

Memorial Day Weekend
This past weekend Josh had a four day (which are the best kind of weekends in military life). With the deployment on the horizon we wanted to soak up every minute together as a little family.
On Friday we went to a new state park that's only ten minutes from our house! We had been waiting for it to open up and are glad that we have this little gem basically in our backyard. The park was small but perfect for a quick hike or a little fishing trip. We threw Mara on our backs and away we went. The hiking loop basically made its way to the lake via an old farmhouse, then weaved around the water, finally making its way back along the same path.
The hike only took about an hour but it was nice to get outside and get some fresh air. Mara slept most of the walk and Josh and I enjoyed the quiet time just us too. I think this is a park we'll definitely be back to in the future.
The rest of Friday was spent catching up around the house. Josh worked on a composting project he's had in the works for a bit now. Mara went swimming in her new kiddie pool and I did some yard work.
Summer is in full gear here so on Saturday we headed to one of the pools on base to swim. We wanted to cool off and introduce Mara to her first pool experience. Overall she didn't know what to expect. I think she was more interested in the kids around her than the water. We weren't able to put her in her float and had to carry her. I think once she's on her own a bit she's really going to love it.
After the pool we again headed back to the house for a relaxing evening. We were all beat from the heat and just spent the rest of the evening playing and enjoying each other.
Sunday we were introduced as members at our church. After service we headed to Josh's office for a quick clean up. Mara and I were happy to help him get everything situated. We also may have had a slight hidden agenda: by helping him then we got to spend more time with him and hopefully save him some time that he has to spend in the office this week :)
That evening we grilled some delicious steaks and just enjoyed family time. There's nothing better than getting on the ground with Mara while she explores her toys, everything seemingly new each time.
Monday started off amazing with Mara giving Josh and I 9 hours of sleep. So after our lazy morning we spent the rest of the day playing games and being together. In the evening we headed to another couple from church's house for a memorial day BBQ. The spread was awesome and I definitely over indulged!
Memorial day weekend was and will always be first about the service of those military men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice. We are forever in debt to them and their families. As a military family ourselves we are even more grateful of this time together and appreciated the extra family time with the deployment imminent.

A Prayer for Deployment
Lord thank you for this time you've given us to be together. I am so thankful for these past two weeks; getting to spend time with family and friends. This time has been so amazing for our family and it has been such a blessing.
Lord I just ask that as we get closer to departure you are just with us reminding us how special this time is. Let us treasure each moment and not worry about the months to come.
I also just thank you for this deployment, Lord. It really has given me a new appreciation for my husband and has brought us even closer. I know that this is your plan for our family and You always have our best interest in mind. We will come out of this better and stronger for it.
My prayer is that in this time apart we just grow closer to You. Let us turn to you in the hard times for comfort and thus grow closer to each other in the process.
Most of all Lord we continue to pray for safety. Safety for Josh and his soldiers. Lord protect them as they travel and arrive in country. Watch over them and deliver them safely back to their families.

Weekend Wrap-up
Last weekend we headed out of town to Williamsburg, Virginia to attend a Strong Bonds event. Strong Bonds is a program put on by the chaplains that is geared toward strengthening relationships whether that be marriage retreats or programs for single soldiers.
This event was a marriage retreat focusing on the 5 love languages. On Friday, we all loaded up and headed to Virginia. The drive went pretty well. We beat the rain and Mara slept for the majority of it. Once checked into the hotel we wasted no time in getting to the waterpark.
The Great Wolfe Lodge has a waterpark on the first floor with slides, a wave pool and areas for kids. We were excited to introduce Mara to the park and see how she did in the water.
As per usual she had a blast. Our girl loves the water. She enjoyed splashing in the water pools and trying to drink from the bubbler. Josh took her under the waterfalls where she promptly shut her eyes and stuck out her tongue. She loves to try to drink water whether its in the bathtub or at the park.
The rest of the night was spent getting settled and checking in with the marriage retreat.
Early the next day we headed down to breakfast and then got Mara off to daycare. Once in the retreat we walked through each of the love languages. I had never heard of the love languages but really enjoyed walking through them and seeing how both Josh and I responded to them. Its good to know what language he expresses love in and learn what I am doing and what I can do in our marriage to show him how much I love him.
We finished up around 2 and then the rest of the day was ours. We headed back to the park and Mara got to splash around again. After about an hour she passed out and one of the other wives was kind enough to hold her while Josh and I headed down some slides.
That night we headed out for a date night. The Strong Bonds event was kind enough to schedule daycare again for this! I can't say how much of a treat this was. We rarely go out without Mara and hadn't since our anniversary in November. We had a great meal and enjoyed just being together.
On Sunday we attended the service provided and then headed into colonial Williamsburg. There was an art festival going on so we spend most of the morning walking around the stalls. After a delicious lunch, we packed up and headed back home.
It was a long trip but so worth it. With the deployment on the horizon we really needed this weekend to get away and reconnect. It was also great that we could get some quality family time in as well.
