You Reach for My Hand

You reach for my hand and wrap your tiny fingers around mine.  You reach for me for comfort.  For reassurance that I am still near.

You reach for my hand while you nurse.  To seal that connection between us.  You reach for my hand when you are unsure.  When something is new and different.

You reach for my hand to sleep.  Because falling asleep is easier when your hand is enclosed within your mama's.

I hold on tight because I know this moment is sacred.  That all too soon you won't always reach for my hand.

That someday you'll be "too big" or "too old" to hold your mama's hand.  So I don't complain.  I hold on to your tiny fingers tightly as if to say, "I'm here Baby Girl."  I need you too.

I reluctantly remove my hand when you fall asleep.  Sometimes wishing that I could hold on forever.  These moments.  Those little hands in my large ones.  I treasure it.
