Weekend Wrap-up

This Saturday we decided to get out of the house and explore some more of Tbilisi.  A few weekends ago we had wanted to walk around Old Town but didn't get going early enough.  We decided to head that way and try to check off a few things on our must see list.

Another day.  Another playground.

Our lonely planet had a walking guide to New and Old Tbilisi so we started there.  From the downtown area we cut toward the river.  Old Town is a little touristy but not too much that it detracts from the beautiful architecture and old churches.  We really enjoyed walking around the area and checking out the sites.

Doing what she does best!

We stopped into a little ice cream shop for a treat before heading back towards our car.  We had an appointment at the local maternity hospital.  Unfortunately the doctor we were supposed to meet with had been called away to an emergency c-section.  Instead of calling the day a waste we hopped into the car and headed back to the Old Town area.

A really neat bridge near the baths
For lunch we went to a great little Georgian restaurant and enjoyed a quiet long lunch.  Mara was snoozing so we took our time and order a few yummy local dishes.  After lunch we walked toward Peace Bridge, a walking bridge over the river.  On the other side was a great park with walking trails and a cute little playground.  We let Mara play for a bit and then headed back.

Lunch
Before leaving for the day we wanted to head to the baths.  The ancient bath house are still in operation in Old Town.  They are built into the ground where there is naturally occurring sulfur springs.

More fun at the playground

Then it was back home for us.  The day was long but lots of fun.  I love these relaxing weekends of exploration with my little family!
